Holistic Therapy Using Reiki and Energy Healing

William Lee Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training defines Reiki as a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

This life force energy, whether called chi in China or prana in India, exists in all things in the universe. Quantum physics states the entire Universe is composed of energy, hence we are all "electricity". By understanding this supposition we use Reiki as a tool to remove energy blockages within meridians and chakras (defined below), which allows the life force to flow evenly and easily throughout the human body, thus improving health and a sense of well-being.

Reiki is quite simple and easily to learn and perform. It has been documented as having a positive impact with most all known diseases and conditions, both physical and emotional, and can be used in conjunction with medical or other therapeutic treatments to improve results.

Clients report a wide range of experiences from Reiki sessions, from falling asleep to ecstatic joy. Even those who do not believe in Reiki experience a relief from pain or an increase in happiness as this treatment is not dependant on an individual's belief. As it works with the universal energy flowing within each individual it is able to realign energy flow irregardless of one's beliefs.

So if you are feeling creatively blocked, depressed, or are in pain, a Reiki session may be a valuable tool to regaining your vitality and happiness through energy re-alignment.

Chakras and Meridians

Chakras, sanskrit for wheels, are subtle energy centers located within each individual, that look like wheels of light. There are seven major chakras located along the spine, some opening out toward the front of the body like cones. Chakras have a variety of roles, but mainly they direct our life force to fulfill specific functions. Meridians are seen as the pathways that life force energy travels upon throughout the body. Following is a list of the seven major chakras, their colors,Sanskrit names and their functions.

Root Chakra (RED) - Muladhara: base of the spine... basic survival instinct- self preservation. Base: Kundalini. Contains the primary 8 cells that have all of the knowledge of
creation and remain the only cells in your body that do not change in your lifetime. It grounds us in the physical world.

Sacral Chakra (ORANGE) - Swadhisthana: just below naval... sexuality & pleasure. Color:
Spleen: Located just beneath the navel, and related to our sexual and reproductive capacity.
Blockage manifests as emotional problems or sexual guilt.

Solar Plexus Chakra (YELLOW) - Manipura: above the naval it's the Seat of Emotions ... Gives us a sense of personal power and happiness in the world. Blockage manifests as anger or a sense of victimization.

Heart Chakra (GREEN) - Anahata: love & compassion. Blockage can manifest as immune
system or heart problems, or a lack of compassion.

Throat Chakra (BLUE) - Vishuddha: communication & practical, analytical thought as well as creativity. Feels pressure when you are not communicating your emotions properly.

Third Eye Chakra (INDIGO) - Ajna: between the eyes... inner vision & conceptual thought

Crown Chakra (PURPLE) - Sahasrara: above the crown of the head ... entering & leaving the body, & spiritual union, it connects you with the divine, the whole of the universe. Can be experienced as a pressure on the top of the head.
